KEW

 RESIDENCE

C&BD's brief for the design of this modern family home was to create a light-filled and airy interior. Contrasting materials on the facade contribute to its distinctive presence in the streetscape. Full-width glass doors at the rear allow seamless integration of the indoor and outdoor entertaining areas. Large cantilevering awnings above the first floor windows clad in the same material as the facade create the perfect protection from the elements.

ROLE

Designer and Documenter

Passive solar design principles were utilised to maximise the energy efficiency of the building. The windows are protected from harsh summer heat by alucobond clad sunshades on three sides.

The residence incorporates interior details which contribute to the light and spacious feel, including this eye-catching opening between the two storeys.

Open timber stairs and a glass balustrade with button fixings  ensure views and natural light is unobstructed.

The timber panelling surrounding the entry affords visitors to the residence a positive first impression. The large entry pivot door is comprised of a contrasting timber to the exterior, but ties in perfectly with the flooring of the dwelling and the feature stairs.
